Spring Cleaning (the mind!)

I love horoscopes. No clue if I can trust them or not, but either way they inspire me and there is always some ‘aha’ moment. My coworker recently sent me the Lenny Report horoscope and it morphed into a recent dharma talk at class this week.

This is a virgo horoscope but I 100% think it relates to everyone this spring:

As Virgos, we love to transform chaos into order, and now might be a good time to do some spring cleaning. I’m not talking about our closets, but our internal worlds: taking stock of some behaviors, beliefs, and/or habits that no longer serve us, and if not willing to get rid of them quite yet, then maybe putting them away in storage.

We always think about spring as a time to clean up our mess in our homes and donate like 6 bags to goodwill. And I feel like we associate New Years with a time of reflection, sorting out what’s in our mind, taking stock of the past 12 months, and our intentions for the upcoming year. I love this idea of spring cleaning our minds! It’s easy to remove the junk from our home but it’s way harder to remove that clutter from our mind (hello meditation!).

I was recently thinking about life (as we all do all the time right?!) I had this overwhelming  thought that life decisions just pile up on each other. They just keep piling and you keep living life and you keep adding things on top of each other— experiences, stories, good decisions, bad decisions and it gets heavy. And sure that’s one way to think about life and ya it’s definitley overwhelming when you feel that weight. And my initial thought was “Can I do it all over?!” And when I say it out loud it’s pretty ridiculous. Why would I ever want to redo life? Life is beautiful and interesting and my story has so many fascinating details that I would never want to be undone. And then I read this little horoscope. We don’t need to think about life as decision on top of decision. We can actually go into our mind with a teeny tiny broom and sweep it out. We can make space for new decisions and adventures. We can package up stories and history into little boxes and put them in storage or give them away to the universe. Life doesn’t have to be heavy. It can actually be freeing and light if you take the time to make space.

So this spring I encourage you to make space in your mind and in your body and clear out the clutter. Do some soul searching. Think really freaking hard about where you are today and where you want to go tomorrow. Are you happy? Are you living your best life? Are you treating your body like it should be treated? This is the hard stuff but the oh so rewarding stuff. Oh and ya go give 6 bags of junk to Goodwill.

Happy Spring!
